BIOGRAPHY
Dr Chirk Jenn Ng is a Professor of Family Medicine at the University of Malaya. A graduate from the faculty of Medicine at NUS (Spore), he subsequently received his PhD from the University of Sheffield, UK. His academic interest is in men’s health, shared decision making and evidence-based medicine. He is a co-author of the first Asian Men’s Health Report and his men’s health research work focuses on men’s health-seeking behaviour, screening and preventive care, and male sexual health.

Professor Ng is part of the national working committee to develop policies for men’s health in Malaysia and he is currently developing the Malaysian Clearinghouse for Men’s Health to archive men’s health research work and activities in the country. He chairs the annual ‘Moustache for Men’ Men’s Health Awareness Campaign at the University of Malaya Medical Centre and recently organised the First Malaysian Men’s Health Conference in August 2018. Professor Ng is also the ex-editor in chief of the Malaysian Family Physician and the ex-Chair of the Malaysian Primary Care Research Group. An avid and passionate researcher and academic, he currently supervises PhD students and clinical specialist trainees as well as practices as a Senior Consultant Family Physician at the University of Malaya Medical Centre.

His talk on Saturday will focus on common health problems in men and why they experience poorer health, together with theoretical insights and practical measures.

BIOGRAPHY
Dr Lee Fatt Soon is a professor who has contributed much to the world of Geriatric Medicine in Malaysia. He is the current chairman of the National Specialist Registry of Malaysia (Geriatrics), the VP of the Malaysian Society of Geriatric Medicine, and a lecturer for the Geriatric modules in UPM. He graduated from MBBS University Malaya in 1986 and obtained his MRCP membership through the Royal College of Physicians, UK in 1992. Currently retired from full time practice, Dr Lee has been an avid academic and lecturer in many of our medical institutes including UPM, UKM, UMMC, the Nursing college of Melaka, and Perdana University. A passionate advocate, he has also given numerous informative talks to members of the public and at local and international medical symposiums covering ethics, primary and secondary prevention, dementia, and other Geriatric modalities.

BIOGRAPHY

Tan Maw Pin is Professor in Geriatric Medicine at the University of Malaya. She qualified from the University of Nottingham, United Kingdom and worked as an house officer in Derby and a Senior House Officer at the Nottingham City Hospital before moving up north to Newcastle upon Tyne to purse her higher specialist training in geriatric medicine.

She worked briefly as a consultant geriatrician at the Royal Victoria Infirmary and Freeman Hospital before returning home to Malaysia. Dr Tan is also a keen researcher, and since she returned to Malaysia four years ago, is the Principal Investigator (PI) of a randomized controlled study in falls (MyFAIT) which will report in January 2015, the lead PI of the UM Grand Challenge- Promoting Independence in Our Seniors with Arthritis (PISA) and a co-PI in the Malaysian Elders Longitudinal Research (MELoR) study. Dr Tan is also the co-founder of the Ageing and Age-Associated Disorders Research group. 



 

We will be conducting a one and a half day HOSPICE VOLUNTEER BASIC TRAINING COURSE (MANDARIN) on Saturday 13th October & 14th October 2018.
**Some parts of this course are based on Buddhist principles**

Saturday 13th October 2018 , Time : 2.30pm to 6.00pm - 1st Day Hospice Basic Training (Mandarin)
Sunday 14th October 2018, Time : 9.00am to 5.00pm - 2nd Day Hospice Basic Training (Mandarin)

Course Fee – RM60.00 per pax (Payment can be made direct to Kasih Laman Sdn Bhd Public Bank Account A/C 3140003208) Inclusive 2 teabreak & 1 vegetarian lunch plus reading materials

Course covered : What is hospice care, responsibilities & boundaries of Hospice Volunteers, communication & listening skills, basic hygiene care, group activity, sharing experience by Kasih volunteers. Certificate of Participation will be given to participant.

Those who are interested, do hurry up and register as we have limited seats only. Not mandatory for participants to become hospice volunteers at the end of the course.
